Holding onto God's Promises

by Lisa Henry

"Praise be to the LORD, for he showed me the wonders of his love (His lovingkindness in some translations) when I was in a city under siege."  Psalm 31:21

Due to what we are currently experiencing, we can empathize with those, through history, who experienced the siege of their city.  The enemy surrounds the city, erects bulwarks and catapults.  No one can go in or out of the city to work the fields.  Food stock piles begin to run low.  But for those who look to God, He has a plan. In fact when the Babylonians sieged Judah, God actually told the Israelites NOT to form an alliance with Egypt in order to try to defeat the enemy.  God had a bigger plan which involved a dreaded exile in order that He might receive glory through Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Adednego and that a pagan Babylonian tyrant might even praise the name of the Almighty God.  God has a plan now. His plan may involve difficult times for His church, but we know for sure and can trust that it will work out for His glory.  As we go through hard times we hold onto His promises of His lovingkindness to us.  We remember to pray for our brothers and sisters in Christ around the world who are going through difficulties too.  We especially pray for the church in China where just recently new laws forbid all live-streamed preaching and Christian meetings for fellowship in any way.  Through it all, God remains God.  He is kind and loving.  We will look back at this time and remember how He was kind to us, who trust Him, through this difficult time.
